Environmental protection, conservation, and energy development are not mutually exclusive. Nowhere is that more apparent than with the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).

Established in 1964, the LWCF’s main source of project funding is from offshore oil and gas revenues. Annually the fund receives nearly $900 million and is responsible for significant funding and support of America’s national parks, wildlife refuges, national forests, historic sites, local community projects, and other outdoor space and public works.

Each state and territory has an administrative agency responsible for the approval of grants and allocation of funds. A general prerequisite to receive funding requires each state and territory to produce a state-wide comprehensive outdoor recreation plan.

The program connects investments of the energy industry in this country and our environmental future, allowing Americans to enjoy the outdoors and its beauty.
