ConservAmerica Statement on Passage of H.R. 1

Washington, DC - ConservAmerica President Jeff Kupfer released the following statement today following the U.S. House passage of H.R.1, the Lower Energy Costs Act:

“H.R. 1 prioritizes America’s economic and national security interests by embracing policy reforms that would increase the supply of affordable, reliable energy. While we don’t expect the Senate will agree with every provision, it provides a strong starting point for bipartisan compromise. As bureaucracy, and a labyrinth of processes and lawsuits, hinder the development of all sources of energy, we are hopeful that permitting reform will be at the top of the list for negotiations. We look forward to seeing members of both parties and both chambers come together for the good of the American people.”

ConservAmerica Encouraged by Senate’s Passage of WOTUS Joint Resolution

Washington, DC – The United States Senate voted today to send House Joint Resolution (H.J. Res.) 27 to President Biden’s desk. The Congressional Review Act Resolution, championed in the Senate by Environment and Public Works Committee Ranking Member Shelly Moore Capito (R-WV) and in the House by Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO), overturns the Environmental Protection Agency and Army Corp of Engineers’ revised definition of “Waters of the United States” (WOTUS).

ConservAmerica: Today’s Ratification of the Kigali Amendment Has Been a Long Time Coming

Washington, DC – ConservAmerica President Jeff Kupfer released the following statement today on the U.S Senate’s ratification of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol:

“The overwhelming support for today’s passage is a significant step in reducing emissions. It proves not only that bipartisan agreement is possible on environmental issues, but also that industry and environmental groups can coalesce in support of climate solutions. Environmental protection and economic growth are not mutually exclusive. The key to addressing climate change ultimately lies in policies that spur collaboration and innovation, and also support our energy and economic needs. Today’s vote has been a long time coming and we commend the Senate for its passage.”

Federal Land Managers Belong Out West

Washington, DC - ConservAmerica Vice President of Policy Todd Johnston released the following statement today in response to the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) announcement that it will move its headquarters back to Washington, DC:

“The relocation decision by the BLM is both disappointing and illogical. If one thing is clear, the Washington-knows-best approach to the management of federal lands doesn’t work. Over 90% of the 245 million acres of land managed by the BLM, and the vast majority of agency employees are located in the western states (including Alaska).

“BLM employees are stewards of our public lands. To effectively do that, they need to be close to the land, wildlife, and communities affected by their decisions. A move back to DC only serves to benefit lobbyists and special interest groups while their constituency takes a backseat.

ConservAmerica Joins Coalition in Supporting House Climate Task Force

ConservAmerica joined more than two dozen other clean energy and conservation organizations today in supporting the House Republicans’ Energy, Climate and Conservation (ECC) Task Force's six-point policy framework as part of their Commitment with America.

House Republicans Release Policy Pillars For Addressing Climate Change

“The pillars that make up House Republicans’ six-part energy, climate, and conservation plan embrace a fundamental reality that is necessary to achieve an effective and durable policy – namely, our approach must balance our environment, energy, and economic needs. Policies that fail to achieve this balance will fail,” said ConservAmerica President Jeff Kupfer. “By putting forward a platform that seeks to unlock American resources, the plan would allow us to tackle our energy and conservation challenges from a position of strength, where we can fully leverage our technological know-how and innovative capacity to drive emissions reductions, fortify our economy and bolster our energy security.”

ConservAmerica Applauds Advancement of Bipartisan Recovering America's Wildlife Act

ConservAmerica commends the members of the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee for advancing bipartisan legislation to strengthen local approaches to protecting at-risk fish and wildlife populations.

The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act (RAWA) would provide additional federal funding under the Wildlife Restoration Act to states, territories and tribal governments to protect at-risk fish and wildlife populations and habitat. The legislation was advanced Thursday out of committee on a 15-5 vote. It now goes to the full Senate for consideration.

“Strengthening protections for at-risk species through state-based management is among our highest priorities,” said ConservAmerica Vice President Todd Johnston. “We applaud the committee for advancing this important legislation on a bipartisan basis. RAWA will provide a stable source of funding for states, territories and tribes to protect wildlife before they must be listed on the Endangered Species Act.”

ConservAmerica sent a letter to the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee at the end of last year supporting RAWA.

ConservAmerica Encourages Congressional Leaders to Address Critical Minerals Supply Chain

ConservAmerica President Jeff Kupfer sent a letter to congressional leaders last week stressing the need for policies that support critical minerals development in the United States.

“The data makes clear that America has a deep, persistent, and dangerous reliance on overseas production and processing. This is largely a problem of our own making – one that can be addressed by reforming our national policy framework in support of mineral and energy resource development,” Kupfer wrote in the letter. “A shift in federal policy is essential and long overdue to solving America’s deepening dependence on foreign countries, particularly China, for minerals that are essential to our energy, economic, and national security interests.”

The letter and copies of the report were sent to Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in the Senate, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy in the House.
