ConservAmerica Launches New Website Focused on Ocean Health

Washington, DC – ConservAmerica is pleased to announce the launch of a new website dedicated to taking a critical look at the plight of our oceans and its inhabitants.

“Decades of overfishing, habitat destruction, pollution, and, more recently, the impacts of a warming ocean are being felt around the globe,” said ConservAmerica Legal Counsel Brent Fewell. “The goal of this site is to provide timely and relevant information on our oceans, focusing specifically on one simple and cost-effective solution that we believe should be explored – Ocean Iron Fertilization.

“One of the greatest threats to our oceans is the dramatic decline in phytoplankton that form the foundation of the marine food web. Phytoplankton are critical to regulating the Earth’s climate, producing 80% of the Earth’s oxygen, and are an essential food source for zooplankton, fish, and whales - without phytoplankton our oceans are biological deserts where nothing can grow.

“Ocean iron fertilization has been studied for decades and is a proven solution for the restoration of phytoplankton. It is time to move to larger projects and demonstrations so that we begin to save our seas and help mitigate the adverse impacts of a warming climate.”

The launch of this site coincides with Rep. Buddy Carter’s (R-GA) introduction of H.R. 7797, the Ocean Restoration Research and Development Act of 2024.
