Trump voters overwhelmingly support solar as a key to meeting energy demand, according to recent polling shared by President Trump’s former advisor KellyAnne Conway. In five key red states, more than 8 in 10 voters support using solar to strengthen America’s energy supply, including a striking 75% of Trump voters. The majority of those polled favor an all-of-the-above approach to meet rising energy demand, and 73% (62% of Trump voters) have a favorable view towards solar – the same share as natural gas.
The results are clear: red state voters are concerned about the impact of rising power demand on the reliability and affordability of their electricity consumption – and they correctly see solar as a critical tool to relieve the mounting pressure on our aging energy grid. While they have some concerns about AI’s societal impacts, they are acutely aware of the geopolitical stakes. In fact, 72% of voters express increased concern about U.S. energy security when informed that China’s electricity production is now 150% greater than our own, threatening our leadership in the global AI race.
With midterms on the horizon, Republicans should listen to their voting base and resist the temptation to pick winners and losers. The right approach is to remove barriers across the board: streamlining permitting, accelerating interconnection, and unleashing private investment in every resource that can deliver affordable, reliable power. Voters agree: nearly 8 in 10 support getting electrons on the grid quickly and letting the market decide what works best. And 81% of Trump voters are keen on the fact that domestic solar manufacturing is booming, particularly in red states.
Given the overwhelming support for solar among Trump voters and its role in strengthening the grid, GOP leaders have a clear mandate to prioritize a diversified, domestic energy strategy or risk ceding control of Congress next November.
