ConservAmerica Applauds Advancement of Bipartisan Recovering America’s Wildlife Act

ConservAmerica commends the members of the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee for advancing bipartisan legislation to strengthen local approaches to protecting at-risk fish and wildlife populations.

The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act (RAWA) would provide additional federal funding under the Wildlife Restoration Act to states, territories and tribal governments to protect at-risk fish and wildlife populations and habitat. The legislation was advanced Thursday out of committee on a 15-5 vote. It now goes to the full Senate for consideration.

“Strengthening protections for at-risk species through state-based management is among our highest priorities,” said ConservAmerica Vice President Todd Johnston. “We applaud the committee for advancing this important legislation on a bipartisan basis. RAWA will provide a stable source of funding for states, territories and tribes to protect wildlife before they must be listed on the Endangered Species Act.”

ConservAmerica sent a letter to the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee at the end of last year supporting RAWA.

Senator Steve Daines Seeks Passage of the Charitable Conservation Easement Program Integrity Act

U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) is making a renewed push to restore the integrity of conservationist giving by passing S.170, the Charitable Conservation Easement Program Integrity Act, which he co-sponsored with Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI).

This legislation, which is supported by land conservationists, has to do with a tax incentive created by Congress in 1976 to encourage and facilitate the protection of America’s lands, waters, and wildlife by allowing taxpayers to deduct from their taxable income any charitable donations made for land conservation.

What Independence Day means to ConservAmerica

As we prepare to celebrate July 4 this year, we at ConservAmerica believe it is worth reflecting on the values and motivations of our nation’s founding fathers. This radical idea by the colonists almost 250 years ago, declaring independence from Great Britain, resulted in one of the most successful experiments in human history— the most flourishing democracy humankind had ever known.
