It’s Giving Tuesday. ConservAmerica is a 501c4 social welfare organization. That means donations to us are not tax deductible.
But, you know what? If you want to make your contribution make a bigger difference, please consider financially supporting right of center environmental/conservation groups like ours. Over the past five years, foundations have granted more than $700 million to groups for climate work. Less than 1% of those funds went to right of center groups (we have an affiliated 501c3 that can accept foundation grants).
That’s why climate messenging is so one sided. Nearly ever dollar granted goes to preach the same sermon to the same choir…over and over and over again. That’s why climate change is viewed as a progressive darling and not the non-partisan issue it really is and should be.
Want ConservAmerica’s Zero Regrets climate policy (the reverse carbon tax) to get more play in DC and the media, and challenge the ubiquitous carbon tax proposal for “a seat at the table”? Then, we need financial support.
Al Gore’s Climate Reality organization has about 400,000 Republican members. Why? Becase Republicans care about the issue and because Al Gore has the resources to reach those people. We don’t. Wouldn’t you agree it would make more sense to ‘house’ those 400,000 voters in an organization like ConservAmerica or RepublicEN or Niskanen or CRES, where conservative, bipartisan-building solutions could see the light of day in Congress?
Not to mention our daily work with unofficial Republican caucuses in the House and Senate on topics like Land and Water Conservation Fund, Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, and Restore Our Parks acts.
The two biggest green 501c4 organizations opposed 27 of the 45 Republican members of the Climate Solutions Caucus in the 2018 election. It is very difficult to look at their calculation and not assign ulterior motives (the entirety of the progressive agenda) to those groups. Why else would a group oppose a sitting member of Congress who has publicly come out on the need to address climate change? We don’t oppose Democrats who are on the caucus. Our niche has always been to restore conservation ethics to the right of center (think Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon, John Lacey, John Saylor). In other words, we’re trying to add to the number of elected leaders who care, not subtract. We stay in our lane.
When it comes to Giving Tuesday, Robert Frost’s poem, The Road Less Traveled might be the best guide for donors.
